You say: " Christians believe Jesus truly rose from the dead, accepting intellectually that this might be true psychologically seems to lack the transforming power across individuals and society that actually believing it does". Unsurprisingly, Gerald R. Baron has highlighted this (I've had this discussion with him before).

Believing that Jesus's resurrection was a historical fact means, well yes, that's amazing and would be a miracle. It remains, however, at the level of something which appeals to and amazes the mind.

If, however, we treat the story as allegorical, or psychological if you prefer, this means that it is an experience possible for all humans, which in my view makes it even more profound.
