You quote the NASB version of Genesis 1.27, which says 'God created man...' This is also a mistranslation, since the original Hebrew word was adam. The NRSV version has 'humankind' in the text, but in the footnotes refers to the original Hebrew. It is merely an assumption that 'adam' means man or humanity, in my view a mistaken one. Adam refers to some kind of spiritual entity, what the Kabbalists call Adam Kadmon.
