Well it depends on whether or not you believe the gospel accounts are accurate records of what Jesus said. If they are, he certainly did use the word 'church'. See Matthew 16.18: "you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church".

Of course, when we talk about Christianity, we are talking about what the Catholic Church created, which may or may not have anything to do with the historical Jesus.
