Truth is indeed by determined by reality. That is why I was suspicious of the passage you quoted where the authors seemed to be coming to the conclusion they would have wanted in advance, hence my suspicion of confirmation bias.

I wonder what Jesus makes of the religion created in his name by the Roman Catholic Church, and its subsequent history: the massacres, murders, tortures, covering up of child abuse, and probably more. Not exactly in line with his teachings.
