That's why we need to look for commentators and sources outside the Bible. After all, the Church chose the canon, and decided how it should be interpreted.
Unless you are familiar with the language of the Gnostics and the Mystery traditions, you won't recognise when Paul uses their language. In similar vein to Jesus in my earlier response, he said that some of his own followers were 'carnal' and not ready for the deeper teachings.
As for your comment about God, perhaps only those devoted and dedicated to the challenge are considered worthy. May I quote Jesus: "For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it".
