I suggest that it means that, once someone has gone through the process of spiritual death and rebirth, as referenced by Jesus in his conversation with Nicodemus in John's gospel, then through spiritual practice ascended and then reconnected with one's soul in its pure form, then one will be as an angel in heaven. This is the teaching of the Perennial Philosophy, as in Hinduism, Buddhism, Kabbalah etc.
