Thanks for your response, which is rather complex, so I'll deal with a few points.
The 'spirits' in my examples didn't need propitiating, rather they merely seemed to want respect and acknowledgement, although you many think that is the same thing.
“What have magical and supernatural forces done for the world and the human condition?” One obvious example would be synchronicity. I would say that divinatory practices (e.g. I Ching, Tarot) are 'magical', and certainly benefit humanity. Depending on how you define 'magic', you could also include parapsychology.
If by “biological and psychological evolution theory” you mean something like the neo-Darwinian Synthesis, then I don't accept it.
The world and the human condition in undoubtedly a better place because of the Age of Reason and the ensuing technology. You say that the gods, magicians, and spirits haven't been doing much. Are you aware of how many scientists say that ideas come to them in a flash of inspiration, intuition, following a dream etc? So where does all that come from. I don't take seriously the idea that a combination of 3 pounds of fat, water, protein, carbohydrates and salts (i.e. the brain) can have any interest in developing scientific theories or new technologies. There has to be something more to it than that.
Reason obviously plays a significant role, but that doesn't mean that it has to be worshipped to the exclusion of all else, especially if that leads to a false and damaging world-view.
Best wishes.
