The main relevance is that such ideas challenge the philosophy of physicalism, and suggest that consciousness is primary. This is one of the main tenets of a spiritual worldview, therefore a key point in the battle against atheism and bad science. That is one of our “actual problems”, as you put it. With regards to communication, it is obviously not important for us to communicate with the sun etc. I'm sure the sun is quite capable of looking after itself.
