Thanks for the response.
The Adam question is certainly difficult. It isn't clear to me either. Here you say 'you said', but I was merely reporting what Halevi said. He obviously had a better understanding, and I would have to read his book in more detail to get clarity. That said, what is presumably being referred to are levels of emanation descending from the Ultimate Oneness.
I agree completely with your next two paragraphs. However, my point was about the levels of meaning in myths. On the face of it, literal, allegorical, and mystical levels do seem to fit neatly with and may be a parallel to the natural, psychic and divine worlds. That may be what you meant, however it's possible that the parallel is only superficial.
As for Atlantis and extraterrestrials, keep listening to your wife. It's definitely worth exploring and consideration. This would seem to be the appropriate moment to share something I held back from before. You were asking me about earlier sources for, versions of, the Genesis stories, and the obvious one can be found in the works of Zecharia Sitchin, a controversial scholar. He translated ancient Sumerian tablets, and came up with some extraordinary and fascinating conclusions regarding extraterrestrials. Definitely worth a read.
In general terms, it is almost beyond dispute that in ancient times there was a highly advanced civilisation, which even now we may not have caught up with. This was destroyed by a cataclysm of some kind, most likely the Great Flood. Graham Hancock is the best known exponent of this theory – various books and the popular recent Netflix series. There are only two explanations for this civilisation; it was either humans, in which case the conventional evolutionary story falls to pieces, or it was e-ts.
For what it's worth, every esoteric school I'm aware of believes in Atlantis.
