Regarding monotheism, the God of the Old Testament didn't seem to think that he was only god, otherwise why would he say that he is a jealous god and "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me". Wikipedia says “It is the central tenet of the Abrahamic religions and prohibits the religion's followers from worshipping gods other than the Lord”. What is the point of all this if other gods don't exist?
Is this an example of inconsistency? I'm sure that you'll have an alternative understanding of all this.
Also I would say that the Britannica article on the name Elohim attempts to explain AWAY the confusion, rather than explain it. The author of Genesis presumably knew what he(?) intended to say. How can there be confusion if this is the Word of God, as David Knott and perhaps you would say?
