“Only recently have we grasped that Nature, as a whole, is a thing unto itself; that it functions in its own myriad interlocked rhythms, yet it is purposeless, without agency, without a mind”.

No we haven’t. On the contrary, more and more philosophers and scientists are concluding that the opposite is true, that mind is fundamental, hence the growing trend towards panpsychism, since consciousness emerging from matter cannot be explained.
