Not specifically because of Paul, rather the references in John's gospel to Jesus perhaps being an Israelite and a Samaritan, thus a follower of the original tradition pre-Ezra.

Paul is a difficult figure to understand, given that he seemed to be in conflict with the Jerusalem apostles, and that his teaching is based upon his visions, which I assume you dismiss.
