Agree with your basic point, but does not materialist science try to tell us what reality is? Namely, the material universe with nothing hidden.

In this debate I am trying very hard not to give excessive weight to the pronouncements of science, agreeing with you that the map is not the territory. As I was arguing in the article, the best we can to do is try to infer the nature of the territory from the various maps. Sender Spike thinks he has deeper insight into the territory, but I can't possibly know whether he has or hasn't. Some of the things he says lead me to doubt.
