An alternative take on one of your points. Brexit may have appeared regressive, but it is was important to do it, because it was possibly our last chance to regain the ability to vote the sort of people you don't like out of office. Under the EU we were governed by European rich capitalists pretending to be liberal so that we would accept them. And since they are unelected, we couldn't get rid of them. Now, although we are being governed by British rich capitalists, if we don't like it, we can at least get rid of them in elections. National sovereignty is the upper limit of democracy.
