My Tribute to David Lynch

San Fernando Valley at night from Mulholland Drive

Everyone has to pass on at some point, but it is always sad when we lose a genius, someone who has made a significant contribution to human culture. I was therefore very sad to hear of the death of David Lynch.

From a spiritual perspective he was somewhat paradoxical. He was deeply into Transcendental Meditation, and spoke about deep states of bliss. His films and the epic TV series Twin Peaks, however, focussed on the darker aspects of human existence — evil incarnate (think Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet), and demonic influences (think Twin Peaks and Lost Highway).

He was also responsible for Mulholland Drive, in my opinion the greatest film of all time, a deep exploration of the mysterious nature of a multi-levelled cosmos.

I was so impressed by the film that I wrote a song about it. You can listen to it on Youtube here. I gave my interpretation of the film in this Medium article.

May he find peace. He has now entered the realms that he explored in his films.
