I don't know where you stand metaphysically. I'm a big fan of Sheldrake, but there may be a different explanation for the effects attributed to dark matter. From an esoteric perspective, there are various levels to the universe. In the case of humans these can be called: physical, astral, mental, causal, soul etc. There is no obvious reason, except that it's mind-boggling, why the same should not apply to stars, galaxies etc. It might therefore be mental, non-physical energies responsible for what appears as dark matter. Since such energies cannot be measured directly, that would explain why scientists can't detect them.
