“mainstream monotheists, with their creeds, scriptures” are not the only type of believers; there are those who have had ‘spiritual’ or ‘religious’ experiences, so that their beliefs are not based on faith. The atheist brigade will of course dismiss these as illusions.

You seem to be a big fan of reason. If religion is irrational, so what? Perhaps the problem is the obsession with reason; it can only take you so far.

By the way, a lot of modern science, therefore one aspect of Modernism, is moving back towards the ‘religious’ views of ancient cultures.
