I'm not sure who you're talking about when you say that “there is an unwritten rule that religion is beyond reproach”. It can only be so in the eyes of the believers themselves. There is no shortage of people all over the world questioning religion. You must surely be familiar with the New Atheists, Dawkins etc. There are plenty of writers on Medium criticising religion, for reasons similar to yours and more.

You may have your priorities the wrong way round. If we could establish the value of true religion, then we might be better equipped to deal with the problems which concern you.
