“Descend into yourself to reconcile your truth or decline into hell”.

I would say rather that the descent into oneself begins with the journey into hell. The best known example of this in literature is Dante's Divine Comedy. There is also Goethe's Faust, where the pact with Mephistopheles obviously symbolises Faust's descent into the hell of his own mind. He eventually finds redemption, and ascends above.

Also, in ancient mythology the 'journey into the underworld' (aka hell) was an essential stage of the hero's journey.

Thus I don't think that our conscious self is hell; hell is rather a 'place' inside our unconscious that we have to journey through in our search for our true self. Is that what you are suggesting in the first quote above? The second one seems to suggest otherwise.
