I know this probably isn't quite what you are saying, but if religion is “aimed at truth”, then it isn't helpful to say that “religion springs from the human experience of and desire for belonging”, and “we sense there is something missing, an emptiness deep inside that needs to be filled to make ourselves complete and whole”. This merely plays into the hands of atheists, who can say that religion stems from a psychological need, which they perceive as a weakness, not from the search for truth.
