I have actually done a lot of reading about ID, and am familiar with much of the material you cite.

ID was certainly not started by the Discovery Institute. For example Alfred Russel Wallace, the co-founder of the theory of evolution by natural selection, while not using the term, believed something similar. See my article: Happy Birthday to Alfred Russel Wallace | by Graham Pemberton | Medium

ID is not the same as Creationism. If you think it is, then it merely shows that you have not understood the material you say you have read.

If you want an example of how terrible the arguments against ID can be, then I recommend Critique of Intelligent Design by John Bellamy Foster, Brett Clark and Richard York.
