I do distinguish spirituality from religion when religions contain little or nothing that resembles spirituality. My aim, as you perceive it, is based on the idea that originally what became religions was derived from spiritual experiences, which then degenerated as time passed, and various authorities took charge of them.

My restored religion would include ancient wisdom, but that is (possibly) still evolving, and goes through periods of decline and renaissance. For example, my current series is discussing whether the ideas of Carl Jung are a new religion, or the revival of an ancient one.

It would do more than 'leave room' for individual discovery, it would be based on it, so it would be a personal inner search. It therefore would be similar to Gnosticism, without necessarily agreeing with all the beliefs of some Gnostic groups. If there is anything out there that can remotely be called 'the truth', hopefully each individual search would lead to the same discoveries.

I personally don't feel the need to worship, as I'm not aware of any being that requires that. As there would be no definitive rules, it would be ok, if that is what someone wants to do. I believe rather in serving the divine, the sacred, by discovering one's mission in life, the reason why one was born, and seeking to fulfil it.
