An interesting response! In answer to your concluding question, it is very unlikely that abuse is going to further any sensible debate. That explains my attitude. That said, I adopt that approach mainly with intelligent, level-headed writers, who are willing to enter a proper debate, like yourself.

I can be slightly less polite with others I won't bother to mention here. So in terms of my personality, I could perhaps say that I often feel tempted to be more rude, but on the whole restrain myself.
