You may have answered your own question. A return to a pre-Enlightenment worldview means simply to attempt to regain the baby that got thrown out. Thus in simple terms, it means to re-adopt a spiritual worldview.

That does not mean that we are looking to make all people and cultures identical, but all their differences can be contained within an overarching worldview, just as it was in the past. Yes, there are different cultures, but there are some underlying similarities. As you say “there is a thread of universality running though all of us that connect us”.
