Hi Geoff. I think that anyone who claims to have discovered the ultimate truth about Christianity should be treated with caution. It seems to me that the origins of Christianity are (or rather have now become in modern times) an impenetrable mystery. There are several credible, but contradictory, explanations.

And anyway, can we trust an atheist who regards all religions as irrational fairy tales, and who rejects the supernatural, when he insists that his only interest is historical truth? Is it possible that his worldview might to some extent have influenced his scholarship?

That said, I haven't read the books, so should reserve judgment. I'm sure he makes some valid points, and has exposed some historical misrepresentations. But the ultimate truth, I suspect not.
