Hi Colin.

Thanks for your thoughtful and interesting response.

“You think the cosmological understanding will arrive after the mythological presentation is given”. I think that, if the era of spontaneous myth-creation as in the distant past is indeed over, and that we now have consciously to create our own myths, then the two will come together, because we will choose to incorporate the new cosmological understanding in the myths. I also happen to think that the new cosmological understanding which is emerging after Enlightenment materialism is to a large extent in accord with the ancient myths (which are related to an esoteric science, and cosmology). So to a large extent the new cosmology is an old cosmology which we are rediscovering.

“The new mythological presentation which could be of service today would be universally applied, or accessed”. I would say ‘could’ rather than ‘would’; that would certainly be the aim.

“But I don’t see it this way”. I’m not sure that there is anything we are disagreeing about. “The necessary method today for arriving at a similar wholeness in relationship with the All, is one which demands conscious understanding. That means a conscious cosmological understanding would be first necessary before human beings can place themselves rightly into the universe”. I completely agree. As I say in the articles, it seems that the era of spontaneous myth-creation is past, and we probably now have consciously to create our own. I also say that we have to incorporate our new understanding of the cosmos into the myths, in line with Campbell’s second function.

The rest of what you say is fascinating. Can you point me to any of your articles which expand on these ideas.
