Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for your interesting response. I disagree with you, however. I think that supernaturalism does explain consciousness, but the problem is that it cannot be proven by the standards of modern science. Rather than explain myself in detail here, I’m intending to do an article, or series of articles, on that theme when I’ve finally finished the current series on Paul and Christianity, which is taking quite a long time.

Regarding Radin, the clue is the quote from Wikipedia, that his ideas and work “ have been criticized by scientists and philosophers skeptical of paranormal claims”. If you start with the preconception that the paranormal is impossible, then it’s not surprising that you will find faults with such work. I don’t know if you are aware of the publishing house Prometheus. I believe that it is linked to CSICOP [Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal ]. In this context, ‘scientific’ does not mean what you hope it might mean, open-minded and objective, rather ‘pathologically materialist’. Some of their books are frankly ludicrous, with their out-of-date science. It’s a fair point that Radin doesn’t mention the frauds and hoaxes, but why would he need to, when he is concentrating on the genuine material?

I agree with your last paragraph in principle. I only wish that what you say were carried out in practice. If only science were opposed to and open-minded about its own dogma, for example Darwinian evolutionary theory, denial of the paranormal, and materialism in general.
