I think you are being a little unfair to Spong in your opening statement. What you say is true up to a point, but he does at least provide a certain logic and detailed analysis.
I think that Keith Michael's primary aim, rather than aligning Christian teaching with something that is acceptable within the current culture, is to seek to remove the perceived pagan elements and return it to an original Hebraic version.
I do of course believe that the Bible carries much significance, but we have to try to understand what it really says, and how it came to be. Then we can decide how much truth it contains.
