Two points:

  1. Even though much science is merely belief, often unproven, scientists often treat it as facts. Thus we read: “we know that 90% of the universe is invisible…”, even though no one has ever empirically found dark matter”. Another example: “Since the Big Bang…”, as if the Big Bang were an established fact and not a belief. Also neo-Darwinian evolution, and consciousness emerging from the brain
  2. Your neuroscientist talks about the brain creating beliefs which may be true or otherwise. That’s a rather materialist formulation. More likely the mind or some aspects of personality. I’m interested in how beliefs can arrive as a result of childhood trauma, or bad upbringing. Worldviews can change as a result of psychoanalysis and therapy.
