Elohim (plural) is also the word used for God in Genesis chapter 1, although strangely it is followed by a singular verb, thus an added complication.

It's hard to see how Ephesians 6:12 refers to the Divine Council rebranded for a new theological age, unless of course you think that God and his Council are organising all the evil events in the world. Paul says that we are struggling "against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms". He would therefore seem to be referring to Satanic and demonic forces.
